If you’re looking to navigate distances with your drone, a GPS module is essential. GPS-equipped drones use this module to determine their location relative to a network of orbiting satellites. By connecting to these satellite signals, the drone can perform various functions such as position hold, autonomous flight, return-to-home, and waypoint navigation.
The Neo 7M GPS module includes an HMC5883L digital compass. This new NEO 7 series offers high sensitivity and low power consumption, featuring 56 channels and providing precise position updates at 10Hz. The module is enclosed in a molded plastic case, protecting it from the elements, making it ideal for use on aircraft or quadcopters.
This Neo 7M GPS module uses an active circuitry ceramic patch antenna, delivering superior GPS signal performance compared to older Neo 6 series modules. It also features a rechargeable backup battery for HOT starts and includes an I²C EEPROM for storing configuration settings. Out of the box, the GPS module is set to run at 38400 Baud and is configured to work with APM/Pixhawk systems. The package includes two cables: a 6-pin connector for the GPS module and a 4-pin connector for the I²C compass.
